Mercado Pasadena was our first project working with our client, Cocinas y Calaveras. We wanted to make an impactful change on the space, while only taking a slight departure from the bones of the previous resident. Their new location had previously been a long-standing local destination and we were challenged because the floor plan needed to remain similar to what was existing. Cocinas y Calaveras wanted to make a statement with this restaurant by catering towards a more dynamic feel than their previous locations. Janel worked diligently with the client to create a space that truly lived and breathed the feel of moody sophistication through her use of shades of gray and red with dynamic lines and brass accents. Dividing the restaurant and bar areas with different aesthetics allowed a unique dining experience by creating two distinct yet harmonious spaces. The use of fully tiled, mosaic walls with pops of red and custom dyed leather booths connect to the brands’ deep Mexican heritage. Thought was put into every detail of this project, impacting the diner’s experience. Customers who had frequented the space before it became Mercado were blown away by the transformation and couldn't believe it was the same space! Mercado was a labor of love that allowed us to transform the interiors while making a huge impact on evolving the Cocinas y Calaveras brand identity as a whole.
